SERVICE BULLETIN
Bulletin Number: 20080711x9GIS
Product: x9GIS
Subject: x9GIS compatibility with ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 Release
microDATA began testing x9GIS for compatibility using ESRI's new release of ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 on 7/07/2008.
Our internal test plan has a 4 week schedule. After 3 weeks of limited use and testing on selected GIS workstations and development servers, and after consulting the ESRI support center and user forums, the ArcGIS 9.3 release will be rolled out the 4th week to all of microDATA’s in-house GIS workstations and production servers.
During the next 4 weeks, if we find there are any x9GIS issues caused by upgrading to ESRI's ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 release, then microDATA may require additional time to develop a new x9GIS extension with a workaround or fix for the issue.
Initial beta tests in June using the “release candidate” indicated no problems with any existing ArcObjects interfaces used by the x9GIS extension. The preliminary verdict based on those tests is that upgrading to ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 does not adversely affect any x9GIS features. We are cautiously optimistic that this upgrade may go smoothly.
You are welcome to upgrade to ArcGIS 9.3, and report any x9GIS issues you encounter to TechSupport@md-911.com. However, microDATA is not ready to make any formal endorsement until we have completed 4 weeks of trouble-free testing.
When microDATA has satisfied all remaining concerns, another service bulletin will be issued in 4 weeks, announcing the compatibility of microDATA’s x9GIS extension with ArcGIS Desktop 9.3.
